Mr. Robert "Bob" Alberts Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Robert “Bob” Alberts, Jr. age 75, of Grand Haven passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Mercy Hospital. He was born April 12, 1942 in Muskegon to Robert, Sr. and Ruth (Stiegelman) Alberts. On October 17, 1964, he married Helen Marie Tyers in Ravenna at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.
Bob was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post 28. He served his country in the US Army Reserves. Bob retired from GTE where he had an opportunity to live with his family in Liberia West Africa for three years as the Comptroller for the Liberian Telecommunications Company. He was an avid Michigan State University Sports fan. Bob enjoyed visiting his brother in Florida, cruising and traveling, photography, and gardening, but most of all he loved his family and spending time with them.
Bob is survived by his wife, Helen; three children: Annette (Tom) Dippel of Kalamazoo, Amy (Dennis) Flynn of Muskegon, and Andrew Alberts of Istanbul, Turkey; five grandchildren: Josh, Seth, and Crea Dippel, Michelle, and Joseph Flynn. He is also survived by two brothers, Jim (Patti) Alberts, Tom (Al Jokubaitis) Alberts; one sister, Mary Cooper; two brothers-in-law, John (Wanda) Tyers, Ted (Susan) Tyers; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; beloved cats: Tarkan, Ayse, and Cheekie; and his wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert, Sr. and Ruth; in-laws, John and Helen Tyers; infant daughter, Angela; brother-in-law, Mike Cooper; sister-in-law, Patricia (Jack) Roy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. David Gross officiating. Visitation will be Monday, April 17, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at The Spring Lake Chapel (213 E. Savidge) of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services with a Rosary at 3:30 PM. Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Bob may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Charles A.
