Robert "Bob" Kurtz's Obituary
Robert F. “Bob” Kurtz, age 65, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016 in Muskegon. He was born on April 16, 1951 in Wichita, KS to Malcolm and Barbara (Cochran) Kurtz, and moved to Muskegon at a young age. Bob was a Veteran of the US Army, and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany during the Vietnam War. He held many jobs throughout the years, including an LPN nurse at Hackley Hospital, auto mechanic and owner of R.A.S. Computer. Bob was a life long rock and roll guitar player, and even started his first band in the 6th grade. He loved to travel and camp around the country with his wife, Sharon. Bob also loved being in the kitchen, and was famous for his ribs and BBQ sauce. He loved his cats, Chloe, Bunky, and Zak. On June 12, 1982, he married the former Sharon VanLente-Battjes and she survives him along with three children, Stasia Kurtz (Cameron) Fielstra of Fruitport, Jessica Kurtz Shagonaby of Muskegon, and Jason (Stephenie) Battjes of Fruitport, MI; 9 grandchildren, Sage and Trinity Nelson, Wyatt, Milo and Logan Fielstra, Evelyn, Alia and Corbin Battjes, and Giada Shagonaby; sister, Peggy (Andy) Donaghy of Suttons Bay and their children, Chris (Quinn) Donaghy and Lauren Donaghy; brothers-in-law, Ron (Gloria) VanLente and Brian VanLente both of Holland; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that he considered family. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Malcolm Kurtz; mother, Barbara Noordhof; and granddaughter, Charlie VerHulst. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be 3 PM Friday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100. VISITATION with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service, from 2-3 PM.
