Robert "Bob" Joseph Landman's Obituary
Eternally upbeat, when asked how he was, Bob Landman’s reply was always, “Perfect!” He was
curious about most things, loved learning, and was a very good friend to all who knew him. An accomplished architect, he contributed many projects to the West Michigan area, including his landmark SPX building, which still shines brightly beside Muskegon Lake. Many homes in the area are referred to under his name. When passing by one of these, the phrase “that’s a Landman House” is often said with warm recognition. He loved working with people to create unique living spaces, as his work was both his hobby and his passion.
Bob graduated from North Muskegon High School, and then went on to DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana before earning his Architectural degree from the University of Michigan. He worked in both Los Angeles and Hawaii before returning to Michigan. Creative in many facets, Bob also loved being behind his camera, and dedicated time to documenting both the biggest vistas and tiniest details while traveling the world with his wife. The memories he shared with his loved ones have been captured in many cherished photo albums. Early in his life, Bob’s father (Lou Landman) invited him to join the Muskegon Rotary, and after many years of service, Bob became the oldest member involved. Rotary was a fulfilling part of his life, and he operated by its motto of “Service Above Self.” Bob loved living on Lake Michigan in Spring Lake and was happy to be “in his home” until the end of his days. Watching the sunsets over Lake Michigan with his wife, “Josie,” was one of the true joys of his life!
Married in 1959, Bob leaves behind his wife, Jo Ann, as well as three children: Kris (Jill), Eric (Jill), and Jodi (Ken) Dail. He was a grandfather to five grandchildren: Mackenzie, Hannah, Samuel, Matthew, and Harrison. He is also survived by his sister Mary Lou (Bill) Eyke. A memorial with light refreshments will be held on Sunday, October 2nd, 2022, from 2-5pm at Tanglefoot Park Pavilion (312 West Exchange Street in Spring Lake, Michigan.) In lieu of Flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choosing.
