Robert Butler's Obituary
Mr. Robert W. Butler, age 83, passed away Monday afternoon, January 5, 2004 in Muskegon. He was born July 30, 1920 to Manley and Ella Butler. He was a kind, compassionate, and loving man who generously gave of himself to family, friends, and strangers as well. He worked at the Norge for 32 years, and 12 years as the Treasurer and Building Inspector for Muskegon Township, retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the Marine Corp. in Guadalcanal.He was a member and usher at St. Thomas Catholic Church, a member of the VFW, Eagles, Lions Club, and the Lakeside Recreation Club. He was an avid golfer, bowler, square dancer, and former Golden Gloves and Marine Corp. boxer. He was married to Carrie Mahaffy on October 27, 1938, and she preceded him in death in 1983. He later married Regina “Jean” Burns on December 30, 1983, and she survives him along with sons, Bill (Nancy) Butler, George (Sherry) Butler, Mike (Sheryl) Butler; daughters, Phyllis Stimson, Patsy (Owen) Schneider, Nettie (Dan) Tilden, Mary Ellen (Robert) Woodward; step-son, Dan (Char) Burns; brother, Basil Butler; 28 grand, 41 great-grand, 3 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday, with the Rosary prayed at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 am Thursday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr.
