Robert G. Chaffee's Obituary
Mr. Robert G. Chaffee, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. He was born on September 29, 1932 to Lyman and Magdalene “Lena” (Smith) Chaffee in Muskegon. Bob spent 40 years working as a meat cutter before retiring in 1994. He proudly served his country while in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a devoted member of Evangelical Covenant Church in Whitehall for 50 years, where he served on the Deacon Board and was the head usher for 32 years. Bob enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, bowling and playing baseball. He liked watching sports on TV, particularly hockey and was a frustrated Lion’s fan. He was good with his hands and enjoyed making bird houses and various yard ornaments. Most of all, Bob cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob is survived by his children, Robert (Deb) Chaffee Jr, Brenda Chaffee, Jude Thomas, Peter (Debbie) Chaffee, Jeff (Laura) Chaffee, Jonathan (Ria) Chaffee and Timothy (Katrina) Chaffee; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Charles “Chuck” Hall. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Ann Chaffee; second wife, Rosella Chaffee; children, Bruce Chaffee and Cindy Miesch; grandson, Eric Chaffee; siblings, Lyman Chaffee and Donna Hall; and parents. Due to the COVID-19 virus outbreak concerning social distancing, a private family burial will be held. A Public Funeral Service will be held at a later date with Rev. Tom Beeghly officiating.
