Robert R. "Bob" Dykstra's Obituary
Robert R. “Bob” Dykstra, age 65, passed away Friday, May 31, 2019. He was born January 7, 1954 in Muskegon Heights, MI to Harold R. and Flora B. (Kline) Dykstra and lived most of his life in the area. Bob was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marines and was 100 percent disabled due to his service. On December 21, 2018, he married Joni Lynn Proctor in Muskegon. He worked as a corrections officer for the Muskegon Correctional Facility and Ernest C. Brooks Correctional Facility. Bob had also worked at Steelcase for over 20 years as an inspector and for PPG at Donnelly Corporation. He was also proud of the service he gave the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Posse. Bob attended Central Assembly of God and was a member of the Fruitport Eagle’s and the Muskegon County 4H. He was a car enthusiast affectionately referred to as a “gearhead”. Bob enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, kayaking, camping and was an all around outdoorsman. He also played guitar and was a talented equestrian to his special horse, “Max”. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Joni Dykstra; 3 children, Bobbie (Randy) Northrup, Chris Dykstra, Danielle (Mike) Hoekwater; 1 step-daughter, Lanea Brown; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Dan (Sue) Dykstra, Ron (Sherri) Wilcoxson; 3 sisters, Mary Galy, Barb (Gordie) Barrett, Debbie Dykstra; many nieces and nephews; and close friends, Mark Smith, Chuck & Cathy Carson, and George McDonald. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Sandy and Linda. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, June 6, 2019 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444 with Pastor Ben Jansen officiating. Military Honors will be offered by the Muskegon County of Veterans and the Muskegon Marine Corps League Detachment 703. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, 1-2 PM Thursday.
