Robert J. Fairfield's Obituary
Robert Julius Fairfield age 76, of Ravenna died Friday, April 23, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born on December 5, 1933 in Muskegon, Michigan to the late Julius and Helen (Meiner) Fairfield. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. Bob married Sally J. Burdick on December 6, 1956 in Muskegon, Michigan.
Bob was a star running back for the 1951 State Champion Muskegon Big Red football team and a star center fielder for the Muskegon Big Red State Champion Baseball Team. He also had offers to play Professional Baseball for the Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox. Bob was very proud of being inducted into the Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame. He was a respected coach for many years in the Reeths Puffer little league. As a husband and father he enjoyed taking his family camping to the Ludington State Parks.
Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years: Sally J. Fairfield of Ravenna, 2 Sons: Dusty and Cindy Fairfield of Ravenna and Tim Fairfield of Muskegon. 2 Daughters: Pam and Kevin Meadley of Muskegon and Betsy and Jack Tjapkes of Rothbury. 12 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild.
He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by 1 Grandson: Mason Scurlock.
Funeral Services for Robert J. Fairfield will be conducted on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 1:00pm at the First Reformed Church in Ravenna with Rev. Don VanSlyke officiating.
Burial will be in Ravenna Township Cemetery.
The family will be at the First Reformed Church on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 from 11:00am until the time of service to receive friends.
Memorials may be directed to the Ravenna Little League Football or the Ravenna Lions Club.
