I had the good fortune to have Bob as a mentor upon returning to Muskegon to practice law. Bob was incisive, practicle and wiley. He would, almost instinctively, get to the key issues quickly. He could untie the most complex legal knot effectively, fairly and uniquely. He was an excellent lawyer, a wonderful mentor and a great friend.

I also was his evening league golf partner for several years. Bob was smooth as silk and I was along for the ride. We won the league one year and I had very little to do with it. Bob was a great golf partner, always encouraging, never upset and enjoying the game and cameraderie to the fullest.

Bob had no pretense, disliked formality and enjoyed his friends, the law and golf to the fullest. He also liked to play 21 and was very good at it. His keen mind never weakened. The last time I visited him, he was trading currency futures on several exchanges as a hobby.##imported-begin##Ron Piasecki##imported-end##

As my step-dad there is a phrase that I heard a lot from Bob over the years - that is "it sounds reasonable." Being reasonable was one of Bob's calling cards. He had an inate understanding of human nature, a calm demeanor, truly believed that solutions could be obtained by thoughtful pursuit, and was an active thinker until his last days. I remember Robert L. Forsythe from many years ago when he served as counsel to the city of Norton Shores. He was the most lovely gentleman and very much admired by those who knew him and worked with him. I'm sorry we have lost him.##imported-begin##Linda Austin##imported-end##

Bob and I worked together at the Parmenter Forsythe firm from 1985 to 1992. He was, and remains, an inspiration to me, not so much as an attorney, (although that was all good) but as a man. He was wise and he always understood the bottom line. I never saw him angry or get flustered. He was mostly retired when I joined the firm, but he was always optimistic and willing to share his time. He remained sharp and active as he aged. I always said that one of the best things the firm did for me was to model how to live life, even the later years, as I worked with George Parmenter, Art Rude, and Bob. For being able to share a small part of his life, I am very grateful.
