Robert R. Foster's Obituary
Robert Ray Foster, age 91, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the Poppen residence. He was born on January 26, 1933 in Muskegon to Ivan and Tessie (Burmeister) Foster and was a life resident of the area. Bob was a fireman for the City of Muskegon for 25 years before retiring in 1988. He was known as the “Clock Man” as he enjoyed repairing antique clocks, while also belonging to the Clockmakers Guild and the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors. Bob maintained the clock on the Hackley Building for many years along with his daughter, Vickie. He loved taking road trips, especially to buy more clocks. Robert was also an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver. On August 18, 1973 Bob married the former Jeanette Carden, and she preceded Robert in death on August 10, 2015. SURVIVORS include his children, Vickie Murphy, Tom (Tami) Foster, Lorraine Grabinski; step-children, Rick (Reta) Benham, Donald “Brook” Benham and Cindy (Kevin) Persons; 16 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and baby Conklin expected in August. Robert was also preceded in death by his parents; first and very special granddaughter, Amy Flemen; grandson, Jesse Benham; and brothers, Ron Foster, and Harold and Dennis Barber. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11 AM Monday, May 20, 2024 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave. Muskegon, MI 49442 (231) 726-5210. VISITATION with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service, from 10-11 AM. Memorial Contributions to the Harbor Hospice Foundation Poppen Residence will be appreciated.
