Robert "Bob" L. Gardner, Sr.'s Obituary
Robert “Bob” L. Gardner, Sr. age 78, of Spring Lake passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013, at his home. He was born May 2, 1935, in Anderson, Indiana to Milton and Hester (Parker) Gardner, and he married Joan Avery on November 30, 1957, in South Bend, Indiana.
Bob served his country in the US Army. He was an active member of Muskegon First Free Methodist Church and volunteered for Meals On Wheels. He was retired from the Ottawa County Road Commission as a mechanic. Bob loved camping, working on cars which was his ministry after retirement for eight years as he and Joan traveled to Florida and Texas. Bob’s greatest joy in life was his family.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Joan; daughter, Sherrie (Jim) Peterson of Spring Lake; two sons, Robert (Annette) Gardner, Jr. and Glenn (Brenda) Gardner both of Spring Lake; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry (Linda) Gardner of Grand Haven, George (Linda) Gardner of Freesoil; two sister-in-laws, Rena Gardner of Hart and Shirley Gardner of Zeeland; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers: James, Don, and Gene Gardner.
The Funeral Service for Bob will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Muskegon First Free Methodist Church, 1400 E. Hile Road, Muskegon, MI 49441 with Pastor Carlos Ramos officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28 Honor Guard. Friends may meet the family from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Interment will be in Lakeshore Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Muskegon First Free Methodist Church Missions Fund and the food pantry of your choice are appreciated.
