Robert "Bob" Lubbers' Obituary
Mr. Robert “Bob” Lubbers, age 81, of Spring Lake and Bradenton, FL passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024. He was born the oldest of six children to Bill and Mae (Slager) Lubbers on July 9, 1942, in Holland. In 1965 he married Judi DeZeeuw in Holland at Montello Park Church.
Bob graduated from Holland Christian (1960), Calvin College (1964), Michigan State and attended Brown University. He taught chemistry at Grand Rapids Central High/City High for 30 years and coached boys basketball and girls softball. He retired in 1994. He also owned a tree nursery business from 1978 until 2003. One of Bob’s favorite hobbies was his first car, a 1948 Ford convertible, which he bought in 1961 and drove for 59 years. The 1948 convertible was his getaway car after he and Judi were married. They enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states together, often camping with their boys when they were young. Bob enjoyed golfing, boating, basketball, tennis, pickleball and played softball in Michigan and Florida until he was 77.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Judi, two sons: Ryan (Michon) Lubbers, Rick (Sarah) Lubbers; nine grandchildren: Sara Connors, Nick Connors, Mitchell Lubbers, Marcus Lubbers, Gina (Case) VanderHeide, Anna Lubbers, Maggie Lubbers, Isaiah Bakri, and Israel Bakri; siblings: David Lubbers (Elizabeth Miele), Ruth (Fred) Otten, Linda (Don) Hamilton, Mary (John) Wynbeek; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert; sister, Nancy Schut.
A celebration of Life visitation will be 6-8 PM Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church. Interment will take place in Grandville Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Bob may be given to Holland Christian, Calvin University, or Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church.
