Mr. Robert Charles McCoy's Obituary
Mr. Robert Charles McCoy, age 82, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at his home in Muskegon, MI. He was born in Iowa City, IA on June 21, 1932 to John Joseph and Elvira Leatha (Welch) McCoy. Bob was a decorated United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean War where he received a silver and two bronze stars, one bayonet badge and two purple hearts. He was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where he had served as an elder. Bob had worked for several construction companies as a project manager before retiring in 1993. After “retiring”, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Lutheran Laborers for Christ. Bob traveled all over the United States serving as construction manager for many churches and schools, retiring officially for a second time at the age of 78. He loved hunting, fishing and enjoyed watching sprint car racing. On November 13, 1954, Bob married the former Dorothy J. Dearborn, and she survives him along with their five children, Jeffery R. (Connie) McCoy, Marc P. (Kimberly) McCoy, Michele M. (Gary) McLouth, Kimberly K. (Jim) Morse and Kelly J. McCoy; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald “Butch” (Carol) McCoy and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Teri Sue McLouth ; two sisters, Evelyn Ruch and Delores Twedt and six brothers, Melvin, John, Edgar, Clifford “Mike”, William and Kenneth. SERVICES will be 1:00 PM Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. VISITATION will be one-hour prior to his services. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery with honors. MEMORIALS in memory of Bob may be made to the Leukemia Society.
