Mr. Robert "Bob" H. Medendorp's Obituary
Mr. Robert “Bob” H. Medendorp, age 83, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at the Poppen Residence of Harbor Hospice. He was born November 27, 1928 in Muskegon to Robert and Anna Medendorp and was a life resident. Bob graduated from Muskegon High School and earned his life insurance certificate. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War. He married the former Corrine P. Cranston in Muskegon and she survives him. Bob worked 35 years as an insurance agent for Mutual of Detroit and managed the Muskegon office for a time before his retirement in 1994. Bob served as a deacon and treasurer of Olivet Reformed Church where he was formerly a member. He also taught Sunday School for the teens. Bob and Corrine later transferred membership to Fellowship Reformed Church where they continued outreach bringing communion to the shut-ins and were original members of the Prayer Ministry. Following retirement, Bob also served as the Elder of Congregational Care at Fellowship Reformed Church. Bob will be remembered for his positive attitude and being a mentor to many. The call of his life was to help others and he lived the Golden Rule – do unto others as you would have them do unto yourself. Bob’s favorite scripture was Psalm 118: 24, “This is the day the Lord has made, I will be glad and rejoice in it.” SURVIVORS include his wife, Corrine; 3 daughters, Lorrine (Charles) Wright, Sr. of Norton Shores, Nancy (Randall, Sr.) Hodits of Montague, Julie (Joseph) Kollaritsch of Clarkston; 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; special friend, Kenneth Walsama. Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Trudi Sobers and his parents. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Fellowship Reformed Church (4200 Apple Ave.) with the Revs. Greg VanderMeer and Jerry R. Worrel co-officiating. INTERMENT will take place at Spring Lake Cemetery. VISITATION will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey Street, (231) 798-1100.
