In 1999, Dr. Packer performed emergency eye surgery for our high school son who had been out riding his bike and was hit by a van. Because of his wonderful skills our son graduated, attended the Air Force Academy, and went on to be a pilot. They require perfect vision.

We loved Dr. Packer! My mom, dad and sister were his patients and we were always very happy with his care. He saved my mother’s vision when she had a torn retina. He told her to come in right away, when she had symptoms, and he saw her immediately. He was able to repair the tear and she maintained her vision the rest of her life, because of his quick response and his skilled care! My mom lived to be 102.

I remember Bob as a colleague and friend. He was active in the Michigan State Medical Society and Muskegon County Medical Society. We traveled together many times to the House of Delegates where he served our county for decades. Bob was on the Ways and Means Committee and served nine years as the District Director from Muskegon. It was my honor for Bob to nominate me for the position of President-elect of MSMS and to provide the introduction to my campaign address. I enjoyed talking with Bob about his years in veterinary practice. I valued his balanced approach to patient care, never recommending a procedure unless he was certain it was necessary and in the patients' best interests. He was steadfast in his commitment to organized medicine, regularly attending meetings of the Board of the County Society and could be counted on for sage advice and humor. Bob and June were devoted to the arts in Muskegon and had a lasting impact on our community. I am grateful they chose Muskegon for their careers.
I met Bob in 1998 when we moved to the Muskegon area. He was always kind and caring. We lost touch for a number of years but we ran into each other about 6 years ago in Stan's bar in Spring Lake, We struck up a conversation and it lasted for quite a while. He loved sharing his life stories and talking about his grandkids and we loved to listen 😊
We would miss him when he went south for the winter. Once Covid hit, we lost touch but often times thought about Bob and hoped he was ok.
