Robert E. "Bob" Scanlan's Obituary
Robert E. “Bob” Scanlan, age 79, passed away Thursday, September 17,2020. He was born on July 6, 1941 to Joseph and Sadie (Bolthouse) Scanlan in Grand Haven, MI. He was a dedicated employee of Herman Miller, where he worked for 34 years as a spray painter. On March 4, 1977 he married the love of his life, Sharon Hewitt in Muskegon, MI. Together they cherished 43 years of marriage full of love and laughter. Bob was known to be an avid golfer and sports fanatic. He was a huge Michigan State Fan, always cheering on his Spartans! He was also a member of the MSU Alumni. Above all things, he loved his family and friends. He will always be remembered for being a loving husband, amazing father, and the best grandpa. His dry-witted sense of humor will be missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Scanlan; 2 children, Jim Wright and Dan (Kate) Scanlan; and 4 grandchildren, Megan Richardson, Tori Wright, Tyler Scanlan and Drew Scanlan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe (Sadie) Scanlan; in-laws, Wesley (Agnes) Hewitt; granddaughter, Emma Scanlan; and brothers-in-law, Jim Hewitt and Michael Greene. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 2:00 PM underneath the S. portico of The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 with visitation one-hour prior. Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, September 21, 2020 from 5-7:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial following the service will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Bob’s honor can be made direct to Harbor Hospice.
