Robert L. "Bob" Scanlon's Obituary
Robert "Bob" Leslie Scanlon of Muskegon passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 92, surrounded by loved ones. Bob's deep faith in the Lord and unwavering love for his family ultimately gave him peace and comfort as he went to his heavenly home.
Bob was born on July 9, 1932, to the late George and Margaret Scanlon of Muskegon. He graduated from Muskegon High School in 1951. That same year, he married his high school sweetheart, Doris Morse Scanlon, who was his wife for 47 years and the mother of his four children.
Bob spoke often about being blessed with a large and loving family, which continued to grow throughout his lifetime. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Scanlon; children: Roger (Gayle) Scanlon, Ronald (Dorene) Scanlon, and Rochelle (Don) Westhof. He was also a proud grandfather to Brandon (Glaiza) Scanlon, Stacey (Gregory) Adams, Kristin (Matt) Obras, Bethany (Chad) Miller, Andrew (Megan) Westhof, and Erik (Lauren) Scanlon, as well as 16 great-grandchildren.
Bob also held a special place in his heart for his extended family of stepchildren: Cheryl (Jack) VandenEnde, Dale (Shannon) Kroeze, Glenn (Theresa) Kroeze, Jerri (John) Baucher, and Jody (Mark) Pulsipher, along with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Scanlon, in 1999, his second wife, Clarise Scanlon, in 2015, his eldest son, Robert J. Scanlon, in 1988, and his grandson, Brent Scanlon, in 2015.
Professionally, Bob served as the General Manager of Cashway Lumber for over 30 years. His strong work ethic was one of the hallmarks of his life and legacy. He was also very involved in the Reformed Church Community in Muskegon. He was a founding member of Faith Reformed Church and served for more than three decades on the Consistory at Fellowship Church in Muskegon. Most recently and until his passing, he was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church. Finally, Bob was a skilled carpenter and woodworking hobbyist, a Michigan State Spartan fan through and through, and enjoyed going for drives by Lake Michigan and wintering in Florida.
A visitation for Bob Scanlon will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, 973 W. Norton Ave, Muskegon, MI 49441. A lunch reception will follow the service at the church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bob's life.
