Diane P Swifney
In 1971 I began working in the office for Bob’s brother, Carl, at Ca-ro-em Construction. As such, I also knew both Bob and Ernie. The brothers owned Schroeder Brothers And Ca–ro-em Construction. It was Bob’s wife, Lillian, who showed me the ropes to eventually become the bookkeeper at Ca-ro-em. Those brothers had a great bond and working for them was a wonderful experience for me.
It is funny the things one remembers. I can clearly remember Lillian sharing that Bob ate soup everyday for lunch. Being a soup lover myself, this made me smile. Bob was a good listener, a quiet man and very respected. He was very good about taking daily walks down Lakeshore Drive. He enjoyed working out in his yard. Many years later when I had grandchildren of my own who lived south of Lakeshore, there were times I would drive by his home with my granddaughter in the car and remark that Bob was in the yard or walking. Apparently, I did this enough that when my granddaughter came to see me she would say “Grandma, Bob was walking by his house when we came to see you.” I smiled then and again today remembering this.
Our community has lost another very good person. I must admit at 103, this picture shows how amazing he really looked. Rest in peace, Bob. You will be missed.
