Mr. Robert Wayne Smith's Obituary
Mr. Robert Wayne Smith, age 73, passed away unexpectedly at his home Sunday, May 5, 2019. Bob was born August 20, 1945 to Howard and Helen L. (Meacher) Smith in Muskegon. On June 7, 1989 he married Sandra Langler. He was employed as the activities director at the Muskegon Regional Center for 26 years and later in maintenance at the Brooks Correctional Facility before retiring in 2001. Bob was a member of St. James Catholic Church where he helped with Church renovations, landscaping and was a breader and dipper at the fish fries. Smitty was a sports nut, enjoying hunting, fishing, hockey, golf, basketball, football, baseball and softball; which he coached and played on numerous teams. He was also involved for many years with Special Olympics. Bob loved to travel (reaching all 50 States); enjoyed sappy movies, Smack Down Wrestling, playing cards & games, and singing along to the oldies; but he loved and enjoyed his time spent with family, most of all. Missing him always will be his wife, Sandy; daughters, Roberta Kay (Kerry) Clements and Shelley Ann (Mark) Fairchild; grandchildren, David (Nina) Botello, Jennifer (Jimmy) Griswold and Charlie Fairchild; great-grandsons, Cruz and Cooper Botello; former wife, Joanne Puffer; brother, Howard (Susan) Smith; sisters, Betty Tanner, Nancy Ennis, Shirley Puffer and Rose Marie (Chan) MacLean; brother-in-law, Daniel (Julie) Langler; sisters-in-law, Annie (Larry) Kuiper and JoAnne Langler; many nieces and nephews; special friends, David Ashley, Larry Weinert, Denny Young, and Jim Scott. Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Gayle; brother, Jimmy Smith; sister, Darlene Smith; parents; parents-in-law, Lewis and Mary Langler; and brothers-in-law, Harry Tanner and Harold Puffer. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 10, 2019 at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Omogo presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service (10-11AM) at the church. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
