Robert W. "Bob" Vogel's Obituary
Robert W. “Bob” Vogel, age 81, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Mercy Hospital. He was born June 4, 1940 in Muskegon to William and Norah (Waltenburg) Vogel and was a lifelong resident of the area. As a young man, Bob and his family were active members of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Muskegon where he and his mother and sisters all enjoyed singing in the choir. Bob had a beautiful singing voice. Bob graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central High School in 1958. On June 12, 1971, he married Barbara Ann Nutt in Ravenna. Bob worked 43 years as a molder and pattern inspector for Sealed Power Corp. (SPX/Dana Corp.) and retired in 2005. He was a lifelong Catholic and was very devoted to his faith as a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake. He volunteered for St. Mary’s Garden Angels, God’s Kitchen at Sacred Heart in Muskegon Heights, and served many years on the funeral luncheons at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Muskegon. Bob volunteered many years for the Lenten Fish Fries at Muskegon Catholic Central High School. Bob was an “Old Newsies” and would help the Good Fellows with the yearly Christmas Baskets. Bob was a standout 3-sport athlete in high school and continued his athletic involvement at Muskegon Community College where he played basketball. Bob made daily visits to the YMCA as an adult. He was on many bowling and fast pitch softball leagues over the years. He passed his love of sports onto his daughters and granddaughters. He spent many hours teaching Rose and Maria the art of fast pitch pitching. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved gardening and attending the many sporting events of his daughters and granddaughters who played soccer, volleyball and basketball. In more recent years, he enjoyed his Wednesday Lunch Group and his breakfasts at Lakeside Café with the guys. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara A. Vogel; his daughters, Rosemary (Joel) Olsen, Maria Vogel; his granddaughters, Madeline, Isabel, and Emily Olsen; Barb’s 6 siblings; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 sisters, Floye Eilers, Geraldine Mackey, Virginia Gunn and twin-sister, Barbara Schucker. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, August 19, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (406 E Savidge, Spring Lake) with Rev. Fr. David Gross presiding. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM Wednesday with the praying of the Rosary and continue until 8:00 PM Wednesday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass, 10-11AM Thursday at the church. Entombment will take place at St. Mary’s Mausoleum in Muskegon.
