Robert E. Whiteman's Obituary
Mr. Robert Eugene Whiteman, age 87, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Poppen Residence. Bob was born August 25, 1928 to Harold J. and Frances (Mundt) Whiteman in Muskegon and was a life resident. On April 2, 1949 he married the former Arlene J. Hovey. Bob worked in sales for Fitzpatrick Electric for 24 years, retiring in 1991. Prior to that he was employed by Muskegon Township as a police officer for 13 years. He led a life of dedicated service to Fellowship Reformed Church and the Egelston Township community. He was the Egelston Township Supervisor for 4 years, on the planning commission for 16 years and was an Oakridge School Board member for 12 years. He is SURVIVED by Arlene, his wife of 66 years; his children, Joyce (Tim) Temple, Kathleen (Dale) Townsend and Harry (Kelly) Whiteman; grandchildren, Brent (Betty) Temple, Trisha (Eric) Allen, Amanda (Matt) Rennells, Megan and Holly Kenny; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Aubree, Lyla and Lillian, Nathan and Grace; and sister, Barbara Snyder. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, infant Harold, Raymond, Charles “Jim” and Jack; and great-grandson, Trevor Jon Allen. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Fellowship Reformed Church, 4200 E. Apple Ave., with Pastor Mike VanKampen officiating. A private burial will be held at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Friday, December 18 at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210 and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship Reformed Church or Harbor Hospice.
