Robert Joseph Williams' Obituary
Mr. Robert (Bob) Joseph Williams, age 73, passed away peacefully with loved ones beside him Friday, December 16, 2016 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 4, 1943 but was raised in Muskegon, Michigan where he became an Eagle Scout and graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central in 1961. He served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After leaving the Air Force, he attended Argubright Business College and Lake Michigan College and became a Department Manager for the Department of Education in Benton Harbor. He soon returned to his passion for travel, becoming a travel agent for Muskegon Travel Bureau, Travel Consultants and MTA Travel where he travelled to far flung places such as Thailand, Israel, New Zealand and Indonesia. After retirement in 2001, Bob continued working part-time at M-K Kreative Designs in Muskegon, Michigan and Jacks Meats in Oakland, California. Over the years, Robert volunteered his time for events such as Christmas for All and Parties in the Park, was a March of Dimes Committee Chairman, served on Muskegon Summer Celebration’s Board of Directors and was a member of ACM/IEEE SC High Performance Computing Conference’s SCinet. Bob was an excellent cook and was well known for his desserts and his love of all things pig related. He is survived by his loving partner of over 25 years, Stephen Q. Lau, Jr. of San Francisco, California and many dear friends whom he held close to his heart and considered as family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Charlotte M. Williams. A CELEBRATION OF ROBERT’S LIFE will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made in his name to the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry (1095 3rd St. Ste 10, Muskegon, MI 49441).
