Mrs. Roberta R. “Bobbie” Brown, age 90, passed away Monday morning, April 9, 2012, at Mercy Hospital. She was born September 16, 1921 in Oak Park, IL to Victor and Byrtha (Grossinger) Hitzfield and has resided in the Muskegon area since 1962. Bobbie had been a school teacher at several places throughout Michigan for over 30 years. She retired from the Mona Shores School District in January of 1977. She was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church, making it her passion to attend, even when her health was not good. Bobbie also enjoyed playing Bridge and when younger enjoyed all water activities. On January 27, 1949 she married George Brown and he preceded her in death on October 9, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her son, Hunter Brown on October 27, 2009; her sister, Jean Hitzfield Lewis and by her twin-brother, Robert, who died in Combat during World War II. SURVIVORS include 2 sons, Craig Brown of Bremerton, WA and Forrest “Woody” (Kathy) Brown of Norton Shores; 7 grandchildren, Brittany, Hunter “Blake”, Erin, Jenny and Nicky; 1 brother, Don Hitzfield of Los Angeles, CA. A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Roberta will be held 11 AM Friday, April 13, 2012 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231-798-1100) with the Rev. Al Hoksbergen officiating. VISITATION with Roberta’s family will be 6-8PM Thursday. For a more lasting memorial you are asked to consider the American Cancer Society.
