Robert C. Mertz's Obituary
Mr. Robert C. Mertz, age 82, died Monday, October 31, 2005 in Muskegon. He was born on May 11, 1923 to Otto & Josephine (Cooper) Mertz, and had resided in the area all of his life. Mr. Mertz was a member of McGraft Congregational Church, and a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He had worked at Sietsema Floor Covering for more than 20 years, before retiring in 1973, and was a Mason with the Noachite Lodge. On July 3, 1954 he married the former Verna Hoppe, and she preceded him in death on November 18, 2002. Mr. Mertz was also preceded in death by 4 brothers. SURVIVORS include 4 children, James (Judy) Mertz, Stephen (Virginia) Mertz both of Grand Rapids, Mary Ann (Don) Volkmann, Cindy (Mark) Zielinski both of Muskegon; 9 grandchildren; and 1 brother, Alvin (June) Mertz of California.
