Robert L. McCann's Obituary
Robert (Bob) McCann, aged 75, of Norton Shores, passed away at his home on Tuesday morning, August 10, 2004. He was a life resident of Norton Shores, born on April 12, 1929 to Joseph W. and Mary (Smith) McCann, and served his country in the Army during the Korean War. In 1946 he became a volunteer firefighter in Norton Township, and continued in this profession full time until 1992, retiring as Assistant Fire Chief of Norton Shores Fire Department. Bob was a lifetime member of Western Michigan Fire Chief Association and Westshore Firefighters Association. He was also a member of IAFF Local 2559, Mona Lake Boat Club, and American Legion Post #28. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, and Willard; and sister, Mary Alice. Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Linda; daughter, Cheri and Jeff DeBoer; his grandchildren, Meghan, Kaitlyn, and Ryan, who always brought so much happiness in his life; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna (McCann) Hundersmark, Barb McCann, Judy and Larry Klunder, Sue Bylsma, Gwen Bylsma; and many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held Friday 1:00 PM at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc.; 1547 W. Sherman Blvd.; Muskegon, MI 49441 (231-759-8565) with Pastor Jonathon Rager, officiating. INTERMENT in Norton Cemetery. VISITATION with Bob's family will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8:00 PM. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Norton Shores Fire Dept.-Canteen #450.
