Robert O. Japenga's Obituary
Mr. Robert O. Japenga, age 87, passed away Monday morning at Brookhaven Care Facility following a long illness. Robert was born in Muskegon on July 28, 1923 to Herman and Elizabeth (Jorgenson) Japenga. Mr. Japenga was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was member of VFW Post 3734 in Fruitport. He married the former Anna G. Lappo, January 20, 1950. Bob and Anna enjoyed traveling and were members of the Happy Wanderers (TTCM). Anna preceded him in death on February 16, 2008. He is survived by: four children, Edward Japenga of Muskegon, Bonnie (Robert) Muttart of Ravenna, Carol (Larry) Kwolek of Muskegon and David (Sherry) Japenga of Muskegon; one sister, Margaret VanderVelde of Ravenna; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by: son, Robert Jr.; a granddaughter Shari Japenga and a grandson, Scott Berg. The funeral service and committal will be held at: The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, Pastor Philip Cappelleri officiating. Military Rites under the auspices of the VFW Post 3734 Honor Guard will be held directly following the funeral service at the funeral home. Visitation: one hour prior. Interment: Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Memorial: Meals on Wheels.
