Robert Sterling "Bob" Thompson's Obituary
Mr. Robert S. “Bob” Thompson, age 83, passed away early Wednesday morning at home surrounded by his loving family, January 28, 2009 in Muskegon. He was born June 8, 1925 to Sterling C. and Merle N. (Hunter) Thompson in Grand Rapids, and moved to the Muskegon area when he was 11 years old. Mr. Thompson was employed at Teledyne Continental Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1986, and was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Thompson served in the Phillipines and Japan. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he served as an usher, belonged to the Catholic War Veterans, the VFW Post #446, the Ravenna Post of the American Legion, the Moose Lodge, and the Muskegon Elks. He also enjoyed taking time to read, and was an avid cribbage player, achieving two perfect 29 point hands. On May 2, 1945 Bob married Maryann Andrzejczuk, and she preceded him in death on December 12, 1978. He later married Gloria V. Mish on March 28, 1987, and she survives him along with 5 children, Linda M. Thompson-Turner of Ravenna, Daniel A. Thompson of Greenville, Robert S. (Joann) Thompson II of Muskegon, Alice A. (Charlie) Miller of Fruitport, Thomas J. (Kathy) Thompson of Titusville, FL; 15 grand, 15 great-grandchildren. Bob was also preceded in death by 1 son, David P. Thompson; and 1 son-in-law, Jerry W. Turner. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. VISITATION at
