Robert W. Kersch's Obituary
Mr. Robert W. Kersch, age 82, died Tuesday evening, March 1, 2005, at Mercy Hospital. He was born June 11, 1922 in Decatur, IL to Walter & Paula (Stein) Kersch and has resided in the Muskegon area since 1939. Bob retired in 1982 from C & O Railroad where he had been employed 38 years. On December 8, 1941, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served over 40 years on active duty and in the Air Force Reserve. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, its mission society and served as President of its Men’s Club for 25 years. He was also a member & Chaplain of the Air Force Sergeant’s Association and the Muskegon Model Rail Road Club. Bob enjoyed model trains, bowling and golfing. SURVIVORS include his wife, the former Verle Smith LaMadline; 3 sons, Patrick (Nancy) Kersch and Jeff (Analisa) Kersch of Phoenix, AZ, Robert W. Kersch, Jr. of Grand Rapids; 5 grandchildren and 1 brother, Roger (Doris) Kersch of Matthews, N.C. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane; son, Mike; sister, Mary Ellen Hartman and parents. SERVICES will be 11 AM Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church (3235 Roosevelt Rd) with Pastors Dennis Lassanske & Herbert Graupner officiating. VISITATION will be 2-4 & 6-8PM Thursday at Sytsema Funeral Home, 737 Apple Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442,231-726-5210, and at the church, one-hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. MEMORIAL GIFTS to West Shore Lutheran School or Trinity Lutheran Church will be appreciated.
