Roelof H. "Rudy" Hamil's Obituary
Mr. Roelof H. “Rudy” Hamil, age 94, passed away at his home Wednesday, April 6, 2011. He was born January 30, 1917 in Muskegon Heights. Rudy graduated from Muskegon Hts. High School in 1936 and served in the U.S. Army with the 56th Cavalry stateside and served with the 8th Armored Division overseas during WWII. He had been employed by the Norge Corp., Kroger Foods and Continental Motors prior to his employment at S.D. Warren as a Luster Coater, retiring in 1982 after 25 years. He married the former Dorothy J. Kroemer in Chicago, IL on October 14, 1949. She preceded him in death on April 22, 1992. Rudy was a member of V.F.W. Post 8846 and the 124th Cavalry Association. He was an avid fisherman, camper, gardener and loved watching and feeding birds. He is survived by 3 children: Raymond D. Hamil, Bruce V. Hamil and Rebecca S. Hamil all of the Muskegon area; 1 brother, Richard (Ann) Hamil of Norton Shores and a very special friend, Kathryn Anscombe of Muskegon. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100 with Pastor Terry Fulk officiating. Mr. Hamil will be laid to rest in Sullivan Twp. Cemetery. Those desiring an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Mercy V.N.S. Hospice.
