Roger L. DePouw's Obituary
Roger DePouw, 84 of Muskegon passed away Thursday, April 13, 2023. Roger was born in Oconto, WI on May 30, 1938 to Franklin and Agnes (Forsberg) DePouw. They moved to Muskegon when he was young and graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central in 1956. He met the love of his life, Joan Lenius on graduation night and they were married June 28, 1958 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Muskegon where they are still members.
Roger worked at the Muskegon Chronicle, Brunswick and retired from Consumers Power after 37 years. He was always busy with projects and ran his own tree trimming business on the weekends.
He enjoyed watching sports, golfing, reading and winning a quarter from his wife (or anyone) playing cribbage. He was a long time-member of the Vikings Lodge #57 where he volunteered working on dinners and tending bar for 40 years. He also volunteered at St. Michael's Church, the Art Museum and the Frauenthal for many years.
Rog was a family man and a people person. He was known for his great sense of humor, loving to share and re-tell a good story and always willing to jump in and help anyone. When his wife had a cub scout troop he would come from work and teach the boys. He went to sixth grade camp out, coached sixth grade baseball, and helped his son coach the Lakeside Bantam football team. He would sit for hours and play games with the kids. In the winter he would flood the back yard so his kids and the neighbors could ice skate. He always made sure to attend his children and grandkids activities.
Roger is survived by: His wife Joan (64 years of marriage), children Jeffrey (Ann) DePouw, Muskegon and their children: Heather, Andrea, and Brandon. Laura (Rollen) Schultz, Muskegon and their children Nathan (Fiance Jen) and their children Bradley and Thomas, and Kyle. Mary (Michael) Lipton, Fruitport and their children Melissa (Greg) Adams, Melanie (Bobby) Wendling and their children MaKenzie and Alayna. JoAnn (Dave) Burchuk, New Hampshire and their children Alec and Alicia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard in 2012; sister, Karen in 2010 and grandson, Joshua in 1989.
