Roger Jager's Obituary
Mr. Roger Jager, age 91, of Spring Lake passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023. He was born August 4, 1932, in Hull, Iowa to Richard and Marie (Clark) Jager. On September 20, 1958, he married Barbara Metzler in Grand Haven, and she preceded him in death on August 10, 2023.
Roger was a hard and diligent worker. In 1965, he and his business partner, built Starlight Lanes where he enjoyed many hours of bowling, which continued into his senior years. He also had a love of trucks and driving, so he sold out his share of the business and began driving truck. He was an owner operator, owning and maintaining his own truck. Over his many years of driving, which was close to sixty; he received an accident-free safe driving award each year, he owned several trucks, and he kept pictures of each one. Barbara, his wife joined him driving cross country when their daughters each started out on their own. When Roger retired from driving weekly, he could be found at home doing his large, beautiful jigsaw puzzles, having coffee in the morning with his neighbor Randy, bowling three times a week, attending church every Sunday at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church, where he also sang in the choir.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Karen (Mark) Blakeman; nine grandchildren: Deborah Barney, Daniel (Rose) Barney, Elizabeth Barney, Jonathan Barney, Hannah Barney, Mary Barney, Sarah Barney, R.J. Wolcott and fiancée, Holly Gallati, and Emily Wolcott and husband, Raymond DeSimone; three great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Diane) Jager; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristine Wolcott in 1997.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lary Jackson officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Roger may be given to Spring Lake Presbyterian Church.
