Roger Lee Merkins' Obituary
Mr. Roger Lee Merkins, age 81, passed away Monday, September 6, 2021 at his home in Muskegon, Michigan. Roger was born in Muskegon on August 27, 1940 to Arnold and Dorothy (Cooper) Merkins. On October 21, 1961, Roger married the former Sandra Lee Horton in Muskegon. Roger and Sandy enjoyed spending time at their family cabin on Big Star Lake where their daughters have fond memories of boating and driving various off road vehicles; quads, homemade dune buggies, and motorcycles. He also enjoyed camping, spending winters in Alabama, throwing horseshoes, watching bowling, and any type of auto racing. He was employed as a body mechanic for over 40 years prior to his retirement. He had worked for Jesse’s Used Cars, George K. Herman of Ravenna, Verhay’s Chevrolet, and Lemmen-Grand of Coopersville. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sandy; two daughters, Ronda (William) LeBoeuf and Janet (Kevin) Dake; five grandchildren, Jennifer LeBoeuf, Carmen (Ryan) Spira, Cathleen LeBoeuf, Jacob (Lindsey) Dake, Alyson (Richard) Orling; 13 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Jason, Blake, Keith, Emma, McKayle, Morgan, William, Charlee, Finnigan, Elliot, Aurora, and Raiden; three great-great-grandchildren, Azalea, Lilianna, Daisy; brother, Donald (Holly) Merkins; sisters, Donna (Ronald) Perysian and Sharon McCormick; and sister-in-law, Janet (Richard) Finneman. He was preceded in death by his parents. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 2:00 PM Friday, September 17, 2021 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 with Rev. Ken Shady officiating. VISITATION with his family will be one hour prior to his service.
