Roger A. Ireland's Obituary
Roger A. Ireland, age 61, passed away March 28, 2011. He was born on December 27, 1949 to James and Mary Helen (Stone) Ireland in Muskegon. He served his country in the United States Army. Roger worked at IBM Corporation for 24 years, prior to switching to the United States Postal Service 8 years ago in Grand Rapids. He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He was a lifelong tinkerer of electronics and mechanics and enjoyed golfing, camping, sailing and fishing. Roger belonged to the Mona Lake Boat Club, Muskegon Recreation Club and was a life member of the Vets Club. On June 17, 1974 he married Jamie Cox in Muskegon and she survives him along with his mother, Mary Helen Stone; 3 children, Yarro (Jeni Wares) Ireland, Eden (Chris) Carlson and Trisa (Thomas) Laughlin; 5 grandchildren, Noah, August, Kimberly, Brianna and Makaio; siblings: Larry (Nikki) Stone, Terry Stone, Gary (Cindy) Stone, Berry (Patty) Stone, Jerry (Carie) Stone, Robert “Mike” Stone, Sue Boelkins and Michael Ireland along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James; stepfather, Robert Stone; brother, Leon Ireland; sister, Sharon Ireland and brother, David Ireland. The MEMORIAL SERVICE will be 1:00 PM Saturday, April 2, 2011 at The Lee Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 with Pastor Ronald Cox officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 6-8PM Friday at the funeral home. MEMORIALS to The Nature Conservancy or the Michigan Department of Natural Resources would be appreciated.
