Memories of Rollie go back to when I attended Bethany Church as a child with my parents. They always had a great deal of respect for him. He was such a caring and gentle helper when each of them passed away. He even drove over to Flushing, MI to pick up my Mom after her passing. He really knew how to comfort people. Our comfort,and yours, is that he is now with the greatest Comforter of all. God bless.

Dear Ruth & Dan,
Sad to hear about the loss of your father. I understand what a difficult time this can be. When you're ready, look back and enjoy the blessed memories. Until then, don't let anyone tell you how you should grieve or how long. Your relationship with your father was personal, as is your grief. I extend my sincere sympathy and condolence to the entire Acterhoff family. Rollie had a “larger than life demeanor” and was a gentle giant of a friend to all. I will miss him. I especially remember when Rollie and I, along with others, would travel together throughout Michigan visiting various Kiwanis clubs. Listening to his life stories, his sense of humor and his consummate salesmanship for the City of Muskegon as well as the Muskegon Kiwanis Club and Big Red football will truly be missed! Rollie touched many lives and I am a better person for having known him.

Dear Achterhoff Family:

My Mother Alice, who is now 82 and living in Grand Rapids at Porter Hills, joins me and our entire family is expressing our sympathy at your loss.

My Mother gets a copy of the Bethany bulletin each week and we have been watching Rolland's name appear week after week.

My Uncle John and my Dad, Bill, and Rolland were all good friends and grew up together.

Rolland was a wonderful man and helped our family through many very sad moments. My nephew, Jon Damm, especially loved to see him at Bethany. Rolland always gave him a peppermint.

I will never forget when he came over to see us after my Dad died and took a long sock out of his pocket when we got to talking about charges...he was so much fun.

We know you will miss him, but take comfort that now he joins all those others whose familes he guided through the tough times in his Heavenly Home!
