Roman T. Winkler's Obituary
Roman T. Winkler, age 91, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020 at DaySpring Assisted Living Center. He was born August 14, 1928 in Stevens Point, WI to Roman and Anna (Lilla) Winkler and lived in the Muskegon area most of his life. Roman was a veteran of the US Army and served 2 years during the Korean War as an assistant gunner with the 86th Infantry – Fort Riley, KS. He also served an additional 8 years with the Army Reserves. On August 3, 1963, he married Dorothy Zawlocki at St. Michael Catholic Church in Muskegon and she preceded him in death on April 15, 2012. Roman worked over 25 years at the Norge Corp. and later worked over 10 years for Arrow Manufacturing. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served as an usher. Roman was a proud member in the 4th Degree at the Knights of Columbus – Dan M. Kennedy Council #706 where he served as Past Grand Knight for 2 separate terms. He was honored by the Knights of Columbus in 2019 for being the longest and eldest living member of 73 years. Roman and Dorothy were also on the Adoration Team for many years at the Divine Mercy Adoration Chapel of St. Michael Catholic Church. The family would like to thank the staff and community of DaySpring Assisted Living Center for the genuine care Roman received. Survivors include his brother, Thomas Winkler of California; his sister-in-law, Margaret Winkler of Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews. Roman was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Winkler; his parents; 4 brothers, Leonard, Robert, Francis, Julius “Tony”; and 1 sister, Alice. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, July 17, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (150 E. Summit Ave.) with the Rev. Fr. Douglas A. Braun presiding. Knights of Columbus Council #706 will provide the Honor Guard during Mass. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the Knights of Columbus Council #706.
