Ronald Lawrence Cook's Obituary
Ronald Lawrence Cook, age 58, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Trinity Health – Muskegon Campus. He was born August 29, 1965 in Muskegon to Robert A. and Helen E. (Nelson) Cook and was a lifelong resident. Ron was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked for 25 years at Grand Haven Board of Light and Power and retired as an Electrical Lineman in 2021.
Ron was an avid outdoorsman. One of his favorite places was the deer woods where he would camp and hunt with his father, friends, and son. He wished to have his ashes spread at a specific hill in these woods by his children. In his retirement, he developed a passion for kayaking. He would put his kayak in the bed of his beloved truck, “Big Red,” pulling his camper and hit the road, he took on many rivers this past summer (Little Manistee, Big Sable, Pine, etc.) by himself, with his daughter, or with his lifelong friend, Tony Karafa. Ron loved every second of it. He loved to take his children out on the water with his fishing boat, mainly Muskegon Lake and Big Blue Lake. He passed on his love and knowledge for hunting and fishing to his children that will stay with them forever.
Ron loved history, he had so much knowledge about all sorts of wars and generals he admired. He was an amazing storyteller about these topics. He loved to read. He would sit at the head of his table in the dining room and read for hours. He also loved God and would read the bible often. Him and his good friend, Chuck Modd, would meet at Russ’, and talk about God and life. Chuck knows Ron is so happy in heaven.
Ron is survived by his 2 children, Gavin Cook and Lena Cook; his parents, Bob and Helen Cook; and 3 brothers, Robert (Debi) Cook, William Cook, and Bruce (Nancy) Cook and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements handled by The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444.
