Ronald S. "Ron" Funderburg's Obituary
Ronald S. “Ron” Funderburg, age 56, passed away early Tuesday, August 5, 2025. He was born on June 19, 1969, to Ronald D. and Carolyn (Mulder) Funderburg in Muskegon, MI, where he remained most of his life. Ron graduated from Orchard View High School, Class of 1988. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years as a third-class petty officer Torpedoman’s Mate aboard nuclear submarines—an experience he deeply valued and often spoke of with pride. Throughout his life, Ron worked in various fields, but his true passion was being on the water. A talented musician in his youth, he was a standout member of his high school marching band and uniquely skilled as the only student who could play every type of saxophone. An avid outdoorsman, Ron loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He also had a knack for working on cars, often even when they didn’t need it. More than anything, Ron cherished time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. Ron was known for his big heart, fierce love, and strong pride. He will be remembered as a devoted father, doting grandfather, loving son, supportive brother, and loyal friend. He is survived by his two daughters, Amanda (Chaz) Noffsinger and Rachel (Steven) Eaton; two granddaughters, Emma and Tiffany; father, Ronald D. Funderburg; brothers, Shane (Becca) Funderburg, Scott (Laura) Funderburg and Jason (Missi) Michael; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Funderburg; grandson, Aydin Noffsinger; and stepmom, Susan Funderburg. A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442 with visitation one-hour prior. Memorial Contributions in his honor can be directed to the National Kidney Foundation.
