Ronald E. Holland's Obituary
Mr. Ronald E. Holland, age 96, of Spring Lake passed away Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Heartwood Lodge Hospice House. He was born November 10, 1922 in Lansing, MI. to Basil and Gladys (Gunter) Holland. On June 1, 1946 he married Helen Ray Fightmaster in Lincoln Park, MI.
Ron graduated from East Jordan High School and then went on to serve his country with the U. S. Army during WWII in the Philippines as was honorable discharged as a Sgt. First Class. Ron and his wife, Helen, owned and operated the Village Flower Shop in Spring Lake for 36 years along with help from their children Rich and Linda.
Ron was a member of the Covenant Life Church and a member of the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin Post #28. He was a former member of the Spring Lake Rotary Club, the Spring Lake Country Club, the Optimist Club, and the Spring Lake Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed golfing and bowling in his spare time.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Helen; his son Richard (Bonnie) of Spring Lake, six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Little in 2017, his parents, two sisters Doris and Donna, and his brother Fred.
A memorial service for Ron will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the Covenant Life Church in Grand Haven with Pastor Bob De Vries officiating. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. Friends are invited to meet the family one hour prior to the service or at a reception following the service at the church.
