Ronald E. Veihl, Sr.'s Obituary
Ronald E. Veihl, Sr., age 73, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016. He was born on October 2, 1942 to Ernest and Betty (George) Veihl in Muskegon. Prior to his retirement in 2011, Ron had worked 48 years as a machinist at Teledyne Continental. Ron lived a full life and was truly a sports enthusiast. In 1960, playing at Muskegon Heights, he achieved All State awards in football. He then went on to play junior college in Sterling CO, and achieved All-American honors for both offense and defense. Ron ended his football career playing spring ball at Utah and moved back to Muskegon. Over the years, Ron enjoyed umpiring, refereeing and coaching many different sports. He played on the Teledyne fast-pitch team and won numerous city champ titles. When it comes to being a fan, Ron was one of the biggest University of Michigan fans you could find. He watched any sport associated with U of M. He and his wife, Barb of 34 years loved their log-cabin home, casino trips and watching the Tigers. Ron was a proud member of Local #113. On May 20, 1982 he married Barbara Christiansen and she survives them with their children, Ron (Collin) Veihl, Randy (Lori) Veihl, Sherri (Joe) Talcott, Tom (Laura) Veihl, Dave (Jeanine) Veihl; step-children: Heidi (Kelly Larabee) Zellar and Keri (Chuck) Plichta; 22 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lynda (Jim) Jones and Sharon (Howie) Behm; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Marilyn Veihl. In Ron’s honor, the family does ask that you consider wearing maize and blue to the visitation or service. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100 with Pastor Don Wood officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 6-8PM Monday at the funeral home. MEMORIALS can be directed to Harbor Hospice or the Johnson Family Cancer Center. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
