Mrs. Rose V. Olson's Obituary
Rose Virginia (Olsen) Olson passed away Saturday, September 23, at the Poppen Hospice House following a long illness with Alzheimer's disease. Rose was born June 15, 1925 in Muskegon to Rose (Jackson) and Jacob Christopher Olsen. She resided in Muskegon her entire life. After graduating from North Muskegon High School in 1943, Rose joined the Army Nurse Corps and attended Mercy Central School of Nursing, graduating after the war ended. Rose began her nursing career at Norge in Lakeside and later became a fixture in obstetrics at Hackley Hospital, spending many years as head nurse. On June 13, 1947, Rose married George Olson and her subtle name change became the object of a Muskegon Chronicle columnist. Rose's first love was her husband and family. Rose enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, aerobics and for years made bears to sell at local craft fairs. Rose was a longtime member of Forest Park Covenant Church. She will be deeply missed by her three children, Stuart (Rebecca) Olson, Garry (Charlotte) Olson, and Lisa (Douglas) Gay all of Muskegon; three grandchildren, Kathryn (Kenneth) Patterson of Muskegon, Ryan (Kelly) Olson of Charlottesville, VA, and Kyle (Kelly) Olson of Muskegon; 8 great-grandchildren, Lauryn and Landon Patterson, Nina, Jack, Anders, Gavin, Nora and Mila Olson; brother, Wayne (Aloha) Olsen; and sisters, Julia Cole, Jane Semelbauer and Florence Olsen. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; and brothers, Jacob “Jack”, Kenneth and David “Teddy”. Rose's family is very grateful for the wonderful care the staff at Seminole Shores and the Poppen House provided to her. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to The Lee Chapel. Please feel free to share a memory with the family on their online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
