Rosemond "Woodie" Worstell's Obituary
Mr. Rosemond Elwood “Woodie” Worstell, age 87, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was born on November 12, 1930 in Griffithsville, West Virginia to Harley and Rose (Bell) Worstell. Woodie was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division. He had worked as a dispatcher for Padnos Iron and Metal for 28 years prior to his retirement in 1993. Farming was a passion for Woodie, and for many years he owned and operated Worstell’s Berries, a successful blueberry farm. He also enjoyed spending the past 25 winters in Frostproof, Florida. Woodie was an avid tennis player and enjoyed playing guitar and singing. He enjoyed good conversation with his friends and family and making new friends wherever he went. Woodie was an active member, minster, and teacher at Grand Haven Church of Christ for 50 years, where he will be greatly missed. On August 6, 1961, Woodie married the former Janet E. Bigham and she survives him along with four of his five children, Mark (Noreen) Worstell, Craig (Debbie) Travis, Kevin (Cindy) Travis, Scott (Jill) Travis; son-in-law, Tom (Karen) Palmer; 18 grandchildren, Jesse, Melinda (Steve), Sean (Erin), Amanda (Steve), Nicholas (Gina), Curtis (Roni), Rebecca (Stephen), Byron (Jessica), Christina (Ryan), Elizabeth (Shawn), Shelby, Ryan, Philip (Kathryn), Abigail (JohnDavid), Evan (Jaime), Emily (Jermell), Alex (Katy); 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Wilma Randall, Jean (Lyle) Clarke, Karen (Edward) Lagarde, Janet (Fred) Fahs, Brenda (Steve) Newman; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Christina Palmer; granddaughter, Heather Travis; sister, Phyllis Hartshorn; and brothers-in-law, Harvey Hartshorn and Herb Randall. SERVICES will be 3:00 PM Saturday, May 5, 2018 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100. VISITATION will be from 5-7 PM Friday, May 4, 2018 at The Lee Chapel and from 2-3PM on Saturday, May 5, 2018. MEMORIALS in Woodie’s memory may be directed to Faith Hospice.
