Rose V. (Hornik) Matthews' Obituary
Mrs. Rose V. (Hornik) Matthews, age 88, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Sanctuary at McAuley. She was born August 11, 1921 in Muskegon to Jerolin and Anna (Bagcar) Hornik and lived in the area her entire life. She married Wesley Matthews in 1964 and he preceded her in death in 1986. Prior to retirement in 1974, she worked as an assembly line worker for Muskegon Piston Ring. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. SURVIVORS include 5 step-children, Joyce Weersing of Muskegon, Ellen (William) Johnson of Muskegon, Pat (Frank) Swain of Brain Bridge, GA, Marvella Freres of Norton Shores, and Bernard “Butch” (Connie) Matthews of Port St. Lucia, FL; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and 5 brothers, John, Steve, Joseph, Charles and twin brother, Gerald Hornik; 2 step-sons, Robert Matthews and Gene Mathews. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100, with Rev. John H. Brown officiating.
