Rowena M. Lloyd's Obituary
Rowena Margaret Lloyd, age 83, passed away in Muskegon, MI on November 10, 2024. She was born in Corry, PA, on September 3, 1941 to Robert and Lena (Shoemaker) Reagle. On June 12, 1965, she married the love of her life, Joel Lloyd, in Corry, PA. They shared a crib when they were babies while their mothers were at Bible study, and were childhood friends. They reconnected after college and went on to share 58 years full of love and laughter. Joel passed away on August 29, 2023, and they are now reunited in heaven.
Rowena received her bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College, and then went on to receive her first master’s degree from Bryn Mawr and her second master’s degree from Calvin College. Rowena and Joel moved to Muskegon, MI in 1976. She worked at Reeths-Puffer Public Schools, and then later at Muskegon Public Schools, in numerous roles including a school social worker and special education teacher, before retiring in 2000.
Rowena loved to travel; she visited all but two states in the U.S. and also spent some time traveling in Europe. Rowena was a gifted artist, specializing in watercolor and acrylic paintings. Throughout the years she has won numerous awards for her paintings. She and Joel were longtime members of Calvin Church in Muskegon, Ferrysburg Community Church in Ferrysburg, and United Methodist Church of the Dunes. More than anything Rowena enjoyed spending time with her family.
Rowena will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Karen Elizabeth Couture, Brian Joel (Megan) Lloyd, and Rebecca Ruth Lloyd; six grandchildren: Matthew Hodges, Hannah (Kyle Overholt) Hodges, Jonah (Morgan Evans) Hodges, Anora Lloyd, Theran Lloyd, and Braelyn Lloyd; one great-grandchild: Felix Overholt; her brother, Robert Reagle; sister, Jean Brooks; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joel Lloyd; her parents, Robert and Lena Reagle; sister, Betty Dasch; son-in-law, Timothy Couture; brother-in law, E. David Brooks; and sister-in-law, Janet Reagle.
Memorial Contributions in Rowena’s honor can be directed to The Alzheimer’s Association. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 5-7:00 PM on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
