Roy Frederick Farrell Sr.'s Obituary
Roy Frederick Farrell, Sr., age 84, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Trinity Health – Muskegon Campus. He was born December 15, 1937 in Thompsonville, MI to Thomas and Bertha (Gunyon) Farrell and lived in the area most of his life. Roy was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard. On September 17, 1960, Roy married Theresa A. Schomogyi at Sacred Heart Parish in Muskegon Heights, MI and she survives him. Roy owned and operated The Main Event Bar in Muskegon for many years. He also worked as the Maintenance Director for Camp Pendaluan before his retirement. Roy was a very active member of St. Mary of the Wood’s Catholic Church in Lakewood Club where he volunteered in many capacities over the years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #706. Roy’s first priority was always his family and he loved spending time outdoors. He was a longtime fan of the Detroit Tigers and Notre Dame Football. He was an avid vegetable gardener and enjoyed sharing his harvest with others. Roy especially enjoyed his little dog, “Callie”. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Theresa A. Farrell; 5 sons and their wives, David (Connie) Farrell, Jim (Susan) Farrell, Roy (Lydia) Farrell Jr, John (Nan) Farrell, Paul (Devyn) Farrell; 12 grandchildren, Jason, Jacob, Ryan, Adam, Rachel, Amanda, Josh, Zach, Brandon, Olivia, Paxtyn, and Theresa Mae; and his special niece, Kim Kolkema-Schaub; and many other special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepdad, Edward Gortat, his stepdad, Phillip Venne, and his sister, Shirley Kolkema-Welch. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, July 25, 2022 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church (1110 Dykstra Road) with Rev. Fr. Godfrey Onyekwere presiding. The Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 PM Sunday followed by Visitation 5-8 PM Sunday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass on Monday at the church. Entombment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum.
