Royce Harold Putney's Obituary
Mr. Royce Harold Putney, age 95, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2019 in Holland, Michigan. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on April 9, 1924 to Louie and Mary (Garvey) Putney. Royce was a veteran of the United States Army and served from 1943-45. He served as a Rifleman in the 1st Division and was in the first wave of infantry to storm the beaches of Normandy, France in the battle known as D-Day. During his military career, Royce was awarded the Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars, European Theatre Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Distinguished Unit Badge. After his service to his country, Royce was employed by American Coil Spring Company for many years prior to his retirement. He was a car fanatic and enjoyed watching hockey, auto racing, and football. Royce is survived by his son, Gene (Debbie) Putney of Longmont, CO; brother, Don Putney; and sister, Nilo (Dick) Minzey. He was preceded in death by his wife, La Nora Putney in 1975; daughter, Rhonda Johnston; and grandson, Troy Putney. MILITARY HONORS will be performed under the auspices of the Muskegon County Council and the United States Army National Guard at 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
