Roy J. Kroeze's Obituary
Mr. Roy J. Kroeze, age 85, passed away at the Harbor Hospice-Poppen Residence early Wednesday morning following, a short illness. Roy was born in Muskegon on March 15, 1925 to Henry J. and Nella A. (Walhout) Kroeze and was a life long resident of Muskegon. He was a 1943 graduate of Muskegon H.S. and following graduation enlisted into the U.S. Army and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during WWII. Following the war, Roy enrolled at Ferris State University and received his Bachelors Degree in Business. Returning to Muskegon, Mr. Kroeze went to work at, Hardy-Herpolsheimers, eventually becoming merchandising manager. Roy purchased Quigley Draperies in 1960 and after 30 years retired and turned over the every day operation to his daughter, Carol and son, Greg. Roy was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Muskegon Country Club, Muskegon Elks Lodge #274 and the Y.M.C.A. He was past president of the Muskegon Lions Club, founding member and president of the Muskegon Sportfishing Association and past president of the Muskegon Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Roy married the former Harriet A. Griffith on February 10, 1951 and she survives him along with daughter, Carol A. (Gary) Beatty of Roosevelt Park; son, Gregory A. (Debra Horringa) Kroeze of Norton Shores; four grandchildren, Lisa (Tom) Mullins , Michael Percy II, Maleah Beatty and Tyler Horringa and Roy’s sister, Lois (Wayne) Libby of Norton Shores.
