Ruby M. Smith's Obituary
Ruby Maxine Smith, age 85, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022. She was born December 3, 1936 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Henry and Matalene (Graves) Madison. On November 4, 1961, she married Homer Smith in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on August 17, 2001. Ruby worked over 30 years for GTE in various capacities, but lastly as a dispatcher, prior to her retirement. She was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church where she served on the Mother’s Board, was a Trustee, sang in the choir, and was a Missionary. Ruby loved singing gospel music, taking bus trips to shop, was an excellent cook, and enjoyed traveling. She also loved the holidays and spending time with family and friends. Ruby is survived by her loving family, 2 sons: Kenneth (Kusie) Smith of Kentwood, MI and Eric (Julia) Smith of Muskegon; 2 grandchildren: Kyle and Caleb Smith; god-daughter, Alexis Sims-Dye; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers: Henry and Floyd; 3 sisters: Anna Mae, Mattie Jean, and Dorothy. SERVICES for Ruby will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, September 24, 2022 at New Hope Baptist Church (560 Yuba St., Muskegon, MI 49442). VISITATION with the family will be from 4-7 PM Friday, September 23, 2022 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231) 798-1100. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens at 10:00 AM Monday, September 26, 2022. MEMORIALS to New Hope Baptist Church will be appreciated.
