Russell A. "Russ" Sorensen's Obituary
Russell A. “Russ” Sorensen, age 93, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at his home. He was born April 4, 1932 in Muskegon to Julius and Catherine (Zeedyk) Sorensen. Russ graduated from Muskegon High School; shortly after, enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany during the Korean War and served with the Military Police. He married Beverly R. Hadley on March 26, 1951. Prior to his retirement in 1992, Russ worked for 27 years as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. He attended First Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing in the choir and was a longtime member of the Muskegon Vikings Linne Lodge #57. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf and horseshoes, and in his younger years, softball. Survivors include his children, Rick (Peggie) Sorensen, Amy (Jerry) Kern; 4 grandchildren, Paul Sorensen, Kaj Sorensen, Zane (Katy) Kern, Makayla (Eric) Conroy; and 4 great-grandchildren, Willow, Hudson, Sutton and Tripp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Sorensen; his parents; and 2 brothers, Allen and Robert Sorensen. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at First Lutheran Church, 1206 Whitehall Road, Muskegon, MI 49445, with Pastor Bill Uetricht officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Memorial Contributions may be made to Corewell Health Hospice.
