Russell “Russ” Howard Stanton, age 75, of Spring Lake passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 19, 2022, due to an allergic reaction to a bee sting. He was born July 15, 1947, in Benton Harbor, MI to Robert Louis and Vada Vane (Gran Read Obituary
I got to know Russ and Verna when I joined a discussion group at the Spring Lake Presbyterian Church. Russ was a such gentle, understanding guy. I enjoyed hearing his thoughtful contributions to all of the topics we discussed. Verna and family - you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Russ was a co-worker with me at GHAPS and co-presenter for educational state conferences. He was always willing to share his knowledge of computer use in education. The students looked forward to coming into my libraries with his traveling computer lab in the 80’s and 90’s. It was great working with him as mini computer labs were placed at the point of learning in the elementary classrooms and libraries. He truly left a legacy when he retired. He was missed by many. When we taught at Conklin we were excited to work with kids and each other in the 6 room school. Ice fishing with Russ on Muskegon lake, and cooking the fish right in the shanty was a special experience. Too bad we lost touch with each other. Dave and Marie Kurek
Mike and Verna:
Russ was a great influence for me during Scouting and beyond. I remember, and use outdoor techniques he taught us, and learned how to not panic, think quickly, then laugh, if appropriate, when a tense moment passes. In addition, my appreciation for science and my naturalist hobbies, are significantly attributed to him. You are in our prayers. Thank you, and thank you Russ.

We in no way were prepared for the shocking news of this profound loss of our special friend and a special man to those who knew him. We are sad now, but are feeling fortunate to have had Russ in our lives. We will always have the stories, experiences and memories shared. Peace and prayers to Verna and the family.
