Mrs. Ruth Jean Armstrong's Obituary
Jean Armstrong, age 87, was born November 12, 1927 in Muskegon, MI, and resided there most of her life. In 2012 she moved to Sunset Manor in Jenison, MI, to be near her daughter during her later years. On March 18, 2015, Jean started her new life in heaven reunited with her loved ones, rejoicing in a wonderful reunion. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones after a short battle with influenza. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Merle Baker (Glynn); her brother, Gerald (Jerry) Baker; her beloved husband, Harvey Armstrong; and precious daughter, Kelly Jo. Jean graduated from Muskegon High School and Western Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She was a member of the Omicron of Alpha Beta Epsilon Sorority. She taught in Muskegon Heights for 39 years, grades K-3. After retirement Jean volunteered at Nelson School. She then traveled around the world visiting six continents with her favorite visit being her ancestral Ireland. Jean had a very adventurous spirit and lived life to its fullest. Jean (Jeannie) is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Rita Ladnier, Kathryn Alexander and Carol (Lewis) Gallup; her son, Kim (Deborah) Armstrong; daughter Kari (Martin) Mattfolk; and 7 grandchildren, Andrew and Katie Armstrong; Jordan and Jared Mattfolk; Meghan (Stephen) Nelson; Joel and Joshua Mattfolk. She was a life-long member of Central United Methodist Church where she played in the Bell Choir and formed many lasting friendships. Memorial contributions may be made to Central UMC, 1011 2nd Street, Muskegon, MI 49440. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Miller officiating. VISITATION will be Monday from 6-8 PM at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, 231-798-1100 and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be made in Mona View Cemetery.
