Ruth Helen Mae Balcom's Obituary
Ruth Helen Mae Balcom, age 102, met her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 27, 2021 surrounded by family. She was born on July 20, 1919 to Roy and Gladys (Bates) Selig in Muskegon Heights, MI and has lived there her whole life. In 1938, she married the love of her life, William Balcom in Muskegon, MI. Together they cherished 44 years of marriage full of love and laughter. He preceded her in death in January of 1982. Ruth was a loving mother of seven children and took pride in supporting her family and maintaining her household. She was part of the woman’s auxiliary at the VFW Post #3195. In her free time, she loved to shop and shop all things pink! She was well known in the community as being the “pink lady”. Ruth was loved by all who knew her, and her friendly spirit will truly be missed. She is survived by her 5 children, Bill Balcom, Chet Balcom, Renae (Dan) Roberson, Dan Balcom and Rick Balcom; 9 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Don Selig. She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 children, Larry Balcom and Helen Balcom; and 2 brothers, Ray Selig and Bob Selig. A visitation will be held from 4-7:00 PM on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at The Lee Chapel of the Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
